Today I have the lovely Jenni from Jenni Elyse doing a guest post about Star Wars today. I was so excited to meet someone that loves Star Wars as much as I do and I’m honored to have her on my blog!
My Earliest Star Wars Memory
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far a … okay, maybe that’s a stretch. It was a long time ago, like 33 years, but it wasn’t in a galaxy far, far away that I remember my first significant Star Wars memory.
I’m a year younger than Star Wars is. My oldest sister, however, was 22 when Star Wars was originally released and she was hooked from the first moment John Williams’ music started blaring the famous Star Wars fanfare. For an entire year, she saw the movie in the theater every Friday and Saturday. That was obviously back when tickets weren’t $10+ a pop.
Seeing the movie in the theater twice a week for an entire year isn’t where it stopped for my sister. She bought all the merchandise she could get a hold of and afford, which is where my Star Wars story begins.
I remember visiting my sister’s apartment when I was about 2 years old. In her apartment, she had a ton of merchandise—dolls, stuffed Ewoks, puzzles, games—including an R2-D2 trash can. This trash can was quite large, almost as large as the old metal trash cans that used to line the streets on garbage day. And, like all her merchandise, it was (still is) in mint condition and never used.
When I saw this trash can, I got super excited and a little bit mischievous because I wasn’t allowed to touch ANYTHING in her apartment. So, while my sister and parents were in her living room, I snuck into my sister’s bedroom, where the trash can was kept, opened the lid, hopped inside, and replaced the lid. A few minutes or so later, my sister and parents found me inside making beeping noises. Alas, no one had a camera, but I remember it very clearly and it’s one of my most cherished childhood memories. From that moment on, I’ve been an über Star Wars fan.
That is such an adorable story. :) I can just see you as a toddler trying to sound like R2D2. Thanks so much for sharing Jenni!

Jenni and Jessica, this post made me smile so big. I love it and am happy you shared with us. It’s a great memory that you should totally write to Disney about. Maybe they can make a commercial to promote their upcoming Disney/Star Wars stuff. :)

Ha ha! That would be fun to do. But, I think I’d be too nervous to do it.

That’s such a cute story! I can remember hiding behind the couch while my siblings watched Star Wars and being totally freaked out about Darth Vader’s head without the helmet :)
