When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.
Will’s character bugged me most of the time (mostly because he reminded me of Jace from the Mortal Instrument Series). Sometimes it just didn’t feel like the story and characters “fit” in Victorian England.
But overall, it was entertaining. It was a page-turner for me. The author is very good at creating an unpredictable story and immersing you in a totally different world.
Content Rating: Medium, for some swearing and some violence.

I enjoyed the novel, but thought Tessa was a pretty weak character for the first 2/3 of the novel. But I have wrote about that at length here:
