Herriman Library

February 10, 2012 By Jessica Filed Under: My Reading Diary 4 Comments

I seriously love my local library and I wanted to feature it today on my blog.

The front of the Herriman Library

The Herriman Library opened at the end of 2010.  Not only is it nice and new and shiny inside, but it’s got cool high-tech stuff as well.  It has a self check-out where all you have to do is place the books on the counter and it scans them for you.  My kids love helping me check-out books.  It’s also a “green” building with lots of energy saving features.

The kids section at the library.

My kids love the bins for all of the kid’s books because it’s easy to browse and find something they like.  They sort the books into categories like Disney Cars or Thomas the Train or ISpy with the covers facing out so they can find lots of books on things they like.  I have to convince my youngest son to NOT take home all 20 of the Clifford books they have. :)

Art in front of the library.

My library also has ebooks for my kindle which I love!! I am always checking out ebooks.

Also, the way they handle books you place on hold is pretty cool.  It’s self serve!  They have an area of bookshelves where they place all the books on hold. They are arranged and labeled by name.  So when I come in to pick up a book on hold, I just grab the ones with my name on it off the shelf! Cool, huh? No waiting in line :)

View of the mountains outside from the kids’ reading area. My kids will sit here for at least an hour reading with me.  I have to drag them out of the library to go home for dinner. :)

I love libraries. It’s the best place in the world to get all the free books you want.

What do you love about your local library?

Oh my gosh, if that was the view from my library I would never want to leave either:) I really like this post. I am a giant fan of my local library as well, so I think I may do something similar (I’ll give you a shout out if I do:) My library has “self serve” reserved shelves too,  and yes,  I love it! I live between two small libraries and me and my two boys use them both so maybe I’ll feature each of them:) Local libraries rock!

Many of the things you mentioned that you love about your library I love about mine. The view is a little different, though. :D

I love all the things you mentioned (my library has them too), plus I live right across the street.  Makes me so happy to walk there (nearly) every day.

Seriously gorge. None of the libraries in my city look like this – but I still like them :)
