My biggest complaint about The Dark Divine was that is was a typical paranormal romance. That is not true for it’s sequel, The Lost Saint. Bree Despain breaks a lot of the stereotypes and cliches that are common in paranormal romance. I liked this book almost right away. The focus shifts from Daniel to Grace. It’s amazing to go on this journey of discovery with her. There’s still that wonderful, slow building suspense, with a great pace, but I felt like it was in the background compared to Grace and her development. I don’t read a lot of books that focus on characters like that and it was so refreshing.
The plot had great twists and turns and it was not as predictable as the first book. There are some great new characters and I loved not knowing whether I could trust them or not. However, I did feel confused sometimes and I would often wonder, “When did that happen?” And Daniel’s back story is the most confusing of all to me. Other than a tiny bit of cheesy dialogue at the end of the book, the writing was enjoyable. Most of all, I loved Grace and Daniel’s relationship. They had some struggles in this book, but it felt so real to me and I really connected with it. I’m excited to read the next one!
Content Rating: Medium, for some language and violence.

I have the first book sitting on my bed right now. I’m going to read it as soon as possible, but that might be awhile because my TBR is so frikkin huge!
