Evie's paranormal past keeps coming back to haunt her. The Dark Faerie Queen is torturing humans in her poisonous realm. And supernatural creatures keep insisting that Evie is the only one who can save them from a mysterious, perilous fate. The clock is ticking on the entire paranormal world. And its fate rests solely in Evie's hands. So much for normal.
Spoiler free even if you haven’t read the first two books in this series.
One of my favorite things about this whole series is that the voice is so amazing. You get this great, sarcastic, funny teenager who is just full of personality. Endlessly inspires me to write better voice in my own writing. Through the story Evie meets a lot of different paranormal characters and creatures. I love that none of her fantasies about them are true. I love even more that Kiersten White had a deeper reason for doing that besides just being funny. It’s one of the few YA books that is funny but has heart, too.
The paranormal romance is done so well. Kiersten even pulls off the love triangle. How did she make Reth 100% creepy but totally sexy at the same time?? A couple chapters into the book, conflict comes knocking down the door (plus the whole neighborhood, too, if I’m being honest). I did not see that coming. My first thought was “Whoa. **it just got real.” And I don’t even swear. This BOOK doesn’t even swear. I have no idea where that thought came from. There was this slight dystopian impression from one of the sub-plots. It wasn’t much – just a little dystopian garnish on your paranormal salad that added a lot of fun and flavor. The conflict is epic but doesn’t take itself too seriously and the ending was oh so satisfying. It was the perfect ending to one of my all time favorite series.
Content Rating: Mild, for some kissing.
