Top Ten Tuesday (11): Top Six Books I’ve Read So Far in 2013

June 25, 2013 By Jessica Filed Under: Top Ten Tuesday 14 Comments

Format: select

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish with a different theme every week.

Since I’ve only read 23 books this year, I give you my top ten six favorite books so far. Otherwise I’d just be listing half of the books I’ve read this year…

Pivot Point (Pivot Point, #1)East of EdenClockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices, #3)The Great GatsbyThe False Prince (The Ascendance Trilogy, #1)Sky on Fire (Monument 14, #2)

1. Pivot Point by Kasie West – Lots of personality in the writing, adorable romance, creative and interesting world, and awesome characters. It was like the TV show Heroes met Sliding Doors.  Loved it!!

2. East of Eden by John Steinbeck – Just wow. The characters and writing were stunning.  The symbolism and bible references were fascinating

3. Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare – This is how a series should end.  I loved the plot twist in there.  I was this close to wacking my sleeping husband at 3 am with my kindle just to tell him. It was that good.  There was great romance and a delightfully unexpected ending.

4. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald – I’m so glad I read this before I went and saw the movie.  It’s a romantic, tragic, glamorous, but thought-provoking book on the American Dream.  The movie was good – the book was so much better.

5. The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen – Even though the world building was pretty traditional, my very favorite thing about this book was the anti-hero Sage.  I loved his wit and sarcasm.  He was one of the most well-written characters I’ve read in a long time.

6. Sky on Fire by Emmy Laybourne – What can I say? I ate up this intense end-of-the-world book in one sitting.

What books were on your top ten list this week? Leave a link and I’ll come look!

I haven’t read enough books to feel like I could list 10, either. :) I’ve only read Clockwork Princess from your list, but I really hope to get to a couple of the others soon.

“I was this close to wacking my sleeping husband at 3 am ” — I’m pretty sure I did get wacked ;)

…. I guess the create account thing when replying gave me a random name and I didn’t realize it was a disqus account (sorry, it looks like spam now)

Husband! What are you doing on my blog! :) I will refrain from whacking you with my kindle from now on. So is it hard to register for an account? I don’t want people not commenting because it’s hard or weird…..love you BTW <3

I loved The False Prince. I didn’t think I would, but holy cow, it was amazing!

I’m going to be reading Pivot Point, Clockwork Princess, and Monument 14 (so that I can get to Sky on Fire!) soon.

I really should read The False Prince! Hey, I sent you an email about getting together Saturday night! I’m excited! Heather from Fire and Ice and Penelope from The Reading Fever both want to come too. Yay! I need your help deciding where to meet for some dessert and chatting time.

Both East of Eden & Gatsby are among my all-time favorites. So, so great.

I finally picked up The False Prince earlier in the year after hearing all of last year about how fantastic it was. Normally I don’t give in to hype, but that one completely blew me away. I absolutely loved it & immediately jumped into the second. The third – & final!! :( – won’t be out until next March and I really don’t think I can wait that long!

I agree – I totally thought “oh no another MG fantasy. Snore.” But it blew me away too! I can’t wait for the third one either!

Completely agree that Clockwork Princess was a perfect ending! I still REALLY need to read The False Prince (for Sage) and Pivot Point (LOVE the movie Sliding Doors).
