Utah Book Month Blogger Spotlight: Kathy

August 6, 2013 By Jessica Filed Under: Events 8 Comments

Format: select

Utah Book Month is a month long event to celebrate Utah bloggers and authors. Today I get to spotlight my fellow blogger Kathy from Read This Instead.  Check out the schedule for more blogger and author spotlights.

What are some of your favorite places in Utah?

I love BYU, because that’s why I came to Utah originally. And I really like Stewart Falls and Arches. So pretty.

AbandonFavorite book by an author from Utah?

I have so many! My favorite from this year is Abandon by Elana Johnson. It’s the last book in her Possession trilogy.

What do you like to do when you aren’t blogging? Do you have other hobbies?

I like to spend time with my family (I have two little boys who definitely get the bulk of my time). But I also like to do family history/genealogy and I love to dance. I may also have an unhealthy interest in reality shows…

Tell us something no one knows about you.

Some day I would love to write a book. Lately I’ve been kicking around this idea for a YA contemporary involving a bunch of rival language clubs at a high school. It would never get published. But it’s fun to think about.

If you could pick a character that you are most like, who would it be and why?

My answer to this always seems to change, based on what I’ve read/watched most recently! I love Mulan (from the Disney movie) and Katniss from The Hunger Games, and also Elisa from The Girl of Fire and Thorns series. I think they’re all strong characters, but they have to be put in situations where they can realize that about themselves.

I like that you picked Mulan.  She is such a strong character.  Katniss too!  Thank you so much for the fun interview Kathy! Be sure to check out her blog and follow her on twitter.

I’d read your book too! :)

Arches is also one of my favorite Utah places. Seeing at sunset is breathtaking.

    Loved learning more about you!

Just stopping by to check out the blog for Utah Book Month, and I’ve enjoyed your interview. BYU is a great reason to come to Utah, and I admit it’s what brought me here, as well.

I think that book idea sounds interesting. Maybe you could self publish?? I need to get over to the Arches and visit. I am more of a U fan… only because that is where my sister went to college! :)

I probably wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for BYU either. :) Lovely interview. And I’d read your book too, Kathy!

Great interview! Mulan is an awesome story – one of my favorite quotes of all time comes from it – “The greatest gift and honor is having you for a daughter.”

BTW – glad you moved to Utah. ;)
