Reading Queue November

November 1, 2013 By Jessica Filed Under: Reading Queue 9 Comments

Format: select

Reading Queue is a monthly meme where you share what books you plan to read for the month.  You can hop to other blogs and see what others are reading and maybe find someone reading the same thing as you! Or you can ask for people to vote on what you should read next if you can’t decide.  Reading Queue is hosted by Book Tasty and Books:  A true story.

To Read

Allegiant by Veronica RothFor Fun:

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

So twitter exploded when this book came out and it seems everyone hates it.  I want to find out why.  The fact that everyone is talking about this book and how they were disappointed definitely bumped it up on my to read list.  Strange, huh? If everyone said it was omg so awesome I would have read it next year.

The Raven Boys by Maggie StiefvaterFor Book Club:

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

I’m so glad to finally be reading this! I’ve heard it has an interesting mythology and I’m really excited to read it.

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund HodgeFor Review:

Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling that I’m very much looking forward to.  Fairy tale retellings are some of my favorite novels, but I’m expecting some twists and interpretations to modernize and refresh this tale.  I hope it lives up.

Number the Stars by Lois LowryFor Dusty Bookshelf Challenge:

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry

I wanted to keep my reading load light since it’s the beginning of the holidays and I’m going on vacation.  So my last book this months is the short novel Number the Stars.  I remember in elementary school our teacher talking about how great this book was and then made us pick between two books to read.  I can’t remember the other book that I read, but it tortured me that I couldn’t read both.  I’m so glad I’m finally getting to this one 20 years later!  Also I thought it would be a good read before I go see The Book Thief.  I read The Book Thief recently enough that I didn’t feel like I needed to re-read it for the movie, but I did want to read something about WWII.

How I Did Last Month

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card

This book was just as good the second time around.  I couldn’t put it down.  The story brought up some really interesting and thought provoking ideas about war, fear, and friendship.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Awesome, awesome epic fantasy.  And one of the best romances I’ve read in such a long time.  The mythology of the angels and demons was stunning, the characters were incredible, the settings on Earth were beautiful and ones I don’t get to read about often.  And the sadness in here was just the right amount of tragedy and sweetness mixed together.  I loved it. I loved it so much in fact, I went ahead and read the sequel,

Days of Blood and Starlight
Days of Blood and Starlight.  Both these books totaled 900+ pages and I finished them in 6 days (that’s really fast for me). The second book was just as good, but it was more of a story about war than a love story.  But more tragedy! And epicness! Why do I have to wait so long for the next one?

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

YAY I did it! It was not as creepy as I thought it would be.  It was more like a paranormal book.  In my defense, I would not have jumped as much at night if my husband didn’t have a cold with such loud sneezes.

The Orphanage by Gary Taaffe

I’m starting this one right now.

I love that you want to read Allegiant, because the reviews haven’t been great. I do that too! :)

I can’t wait for Dreams of Gods and Monsters either. I love Karou and Akiva! And I love Laini Taylor’s writing so much! I can’t wait to see how she wraps everything up! And I have Allegiant on my list this month as well. I hope I can get to it. I’ve been spoiled so I know why people are upset but I really want to see how it all gets to that point.

Aw that sucks that you got spoiled! Luckily I haven’t. I’m almost done and it’s been a little boring in the middle so far, but overall pretty good. None of her books have been very fast paced and it’s about the same pace with Allegiant.

I haven’t read Enders Game, although I have watched the movie, and I am still debating whether I want to read Miss Peregrine’s Home. Congrats on nearly making it though all you Reading Queue from last month, and I’m looking forward to seeing how you do with this month.

I can’t wait for the third books in the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series. The second one broke my heart a bit. I really want to read Cruel Beauty.

I’ve been avoiding reading reviews of Allegiant. I just am so afraid someone will spoil something for me. I’m on hold for a copy at the library so hopefully my turn will come soon!

One of these days I hope to finally read The Raven Boys. It sounds like it is such a great book and I want to see what the fuss is all about!
