Before he ruled Ravka, before he was the Darkling, he was just a lonely boy with an extraordinary gift. In this prequel story to the New York Times-bestselling Grisha Trilogy, Leigh Bardugo takes us into Ravka's mysterious past, when Grisha lived as fugitives and the Darkling took his first steps on the path to power.
Seeing the Darkling’s childhood in this short story made him a more sympathetic character. I was surprised that I felt bad for him! I thought The Demon in the Wood was worth reading. It fleshed out the idea of amplifiers and showed the greed that they can cause.
My favorite quote:
Fear is a powerful ally, but feed it too often, make it too strong, and it will turn on you.
-Leigh Bardugo, The Demon in the Wood

My name is Jessica. I love to read Young Adult and classic literature. I’ve been a book blogger for six years and I haven’t gotten tired of it yet. I’m a very curious reader. Writing about all the questions and thoughts I had while reading a book is the best hobby ever.
I need to read this series. And then I can read this.
Oh, how I love the Darkling, even after all the trouble he caused. LOL!
I can’t wait for Crooked Kingdom!
