Here’s the resolutions I set for 2018. I highlighted in Green if I actually accomplished it, Orange if I worked on it, and Red if I didn’t do it.
Blog
- Blog at 6:30 am for an hour each weekday. This started out great but I use this time to work on my bullet journal instead. I’m trying to work on my blog on Saturday’s and days my kids are all in school. It’s going ok so far lol.
- Review all the books I’ve read from 2016 to the present. I’m so far behind on this project that I wonder if I’ll ever get back to reviewing every book I read, but I’m going to review as many as I can.
- Type up my Star Wars Reading Lists. I wrote a blog post about this and I just updated it too!
Reading
- Read Owlcrate book the month I get it. I actually quit Owlcrate because I wasn’t enjoying their book picks anymore. But I am trying to read the Litjoy and Unicorn Crate books I get every month as I get them. It’s going ok so far. Haha!
- Read book club book one month in advance. I love feeling prepared for book club and not missing any books!
- Read 50 books in a year. I had to read 13 books in December, but I pulled it off.
- Read 60 minutes a day. I read in multiple formats now and it has helped so much for hitting this goal. I read a physical book, an ebook, and an audiobook every week. These usually overlap. I often get audiobooks and ebooks from the library for the physical books I own to help me get in more reading time.
- Read a Star Wars book every month. I made a huge dent in the Star Wars Canon. I really enjoy the Star Wars audiobooks and I will keep reading a new Star Wars book every month. I love it!
- Work on my Classics Club reading challenge. Reading in multiple formats has helped me not fall behind on my reading goal, but it will be a while before I feel like I can add harder books to my reading schedule again.

Failed
Personal
- Continue house projects. I was able to finish our music room, living room, and master bedroom. Yay!
- Do the dishes 100% after every dinner. I made my husband do this and it’s worked out great.
- Grow an herb garden. This is year 56897 that I have yet again killed my herb garden. Maybe it’s not meant to be.
- Burn a candle in the kitchen or run the oil diffuser every day. I love doing this. It sparks so much joy. I even made a dedicated area behind the sink for burning candles with a plate charger and decorative bowl that I already owned and had been sitting in a cupboard all neglected.
Physical
- Exercise with the Fitbit coach app or do yoga every day after breakfast around 10 am. I actually found that I like exercising right before I go to bed. Exercising makes me very sleepy and when I do it in the afternoon I get cranky because I can’t nap. I also found that I like walking because I can listen to my audiobook and it gets me out of the house. I now workout around 9 pm, shower, and read for like 10 minutes before I pass out in the most deep, restful sleep ever.
- Learn and follow my new low FODAMP diet. I keep a very detailed food diary every single day now and I have learned so much of what I can and can’t eat. It’s freeing and I love it.
- Adapt my Grid Diary app for my new diet and goals. I use this app every single day. I thought it would take forever to log all my habits and my food on a daily basis but my phone says on average it takes me about 20 minutes every day
Family
- Plan more dates and kid outings. I was going to have Friday as date night and Saturday as a day for outings but we found that we like cleaning on Friday night so we can have all of Saturday free. We alternate what Saturdays we have dates and outings with our kids and it works really well so far.
- Board games once a week. It’s more like once a month but we have so much fun as a family when we do this.
- Baking once a week. I really wish I had made this one a habit. Having lower sugar (compared to commercial foods), low Fodmap, gluten free treats on hand would save me a lot of trouble when I am going places where I or my kids can’t have the treats they are serving. I sometimes eat them anyway and then regret it.
Spritual
- Journal and read lesson on Sunday mornings. This is a habit that I love. I’ve grown so much spiritually by doing it.
- Do all 25 days of Light the World at Christmas. I wish I had done this. Christmas was so crazy and hectic this year that we decided to go to Disney for Christmas this year because it sounds less hectic to go there on the busiest day of the year than stay home again.
