Lord of the Rings Marathon Day 1: The Hobbit

February 6, 2014 By Jessica Filed Under: My Reading Diary 2 Comments

Movie Marathons are becoming a tradition in my family.  Lord of the Rings was the first one we did a few years ago and when we found out my cousin hadn’t seen Star Wars we had a movie marathon for that.  But I’ve never blogged about our Lord of the Rings marathon even though we’ve done it a few times.  So yay that I’m finally getting around to it!  I will talk about all the food we ate and our random thoughts about the movie.

The Food

A feast fit for a Hobbit

Veggie Tray
Cheese Wheels (we ate them by the block)
Green Beans
Mushrooms

Apples, Rolls
Sausage
Tomatoes
Pie

Our Pointless Commentary

Movie starts. Enter Thror.

Everyone:  We love Thror’s bedazzled beard.

Enter Dragon.  Enter Elves.

Aunt (LOTR Fan and purist): They didn’t ride deer. *long suffering sigh* Whatever.

Me: (paraphrasing Bilbo) This was a hobbit-hole and that means good food, a warm hearth, and Elijah Wood.

Aunt: I want a hobbit-hole.

LORD OF THE SMOKE RING

Bilbo: No adventures, no soliciting at my round door.  Good morning.

Every time Bilbo tells the dwarves not to sit on things because they are antique, wipe things with doilies, or eat his food my aunt goes: That’s so me!!

Also, what DID the dwarves do to the bathroom?

After Bilbo reads all the terms and conditions, he takes off on an adventure on carpet covered ponies that really bothered my aunt.

Whoa they are covered in carpet.  I’d never noticed before.

Azog, the bad guy loses his arm.

Aunt: His scream sounds just like a 14 year-old behind me on a roller coaster at Disneyland.

WHUT LOL OMG I SO DO NOT SCREAM LIKE A GIRL

Everyone: Wow. That’s a big nose there Balin.

Aunt: Better to catch the tears with my dear!

(We love Balin!! But wow you really notice how big his nose is in that scene.)

When did Thorin get highlights?

I thought my highlights looked good…

Galadriel takes a few turns about the room to impress Mr. Darcy (pick who you will for Mr. Darcy:)).  The trolls turn into Rock ’em Sock ’em robots and there’s fighting and goblins and stuff.  The end!

Keep your eye out for Part 2 with all of the Lord of the Rings movies.  We watched all of the theatrical editions in one day.  There’s more food! And more pointless commentary!  Thanks for stopping by :)

Haha. That was very entertaining. I do the same things with my family. We have big movie-thons and then insert our commentary like the old Mystery Science Theater show. It easier to make fun of movies that you love. Can’t wait for third installment of The Hobbit.

Hahaha, that’s so funny! Totally sounds like my family watching a movie. And the snacks look amazing.

My name is Jessica. I love to read Young Adult and classic literature. I’ve been a book blogger for six years and I haven’t gotten tired of it yet. I’m a very curious reader. Writing about all the questions and thoughts I had while reading a book is the best hobby ever.  Read more….
