Reading Queue January

January 6, 2015 By Jessica Filed Under: Reading Queue 5 Comments

Format: select

Reading Queue is a monthly meme where you share what books you plan to read for the month.  You can hop to other blogs and see what others are reading and maybe find someone reading the same thing as you! Or you can ask for people to vote on what you should read next if you can’t decide.  Reading Queue is hosted by Book Tasty and Books:  A true story.

To Read

Buddy read: The Martian by Andy Weir

A few of my friends are reading this so I’m going to join them!

Book Club: Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

A classic, Gothic romance.

Audiobook: Creativity Inc. by Ed Catmull, Amy Wallace

I love listening to audiobooks while I’m cleaning the house.  It’s one thing I really dread and listening to audiobooks helps me look forward to it.  I love listening to non-fiction and this is about the business culture at Pixar.

For fun: Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

This was on my list last month and I just couldn’t get into it.  So many people love it and I did love Cinder so I’m definitely going to give it another chance.

To kids: Indian in the Cupboard by Lynne Reid Banks

I’m trying to make my kids more of a priority in my life.  Part of that goal is to read them stories that they will like.  They are pretty honest.  They will flat out tell me if the story is boring. I might make some sort of blog post about the books they liked and didn’t like and why.

How I Did Last Month

I finished my reading challenge for 2014! I had to read 3 short stories from the Grisha Series by Leigh Bardugo to do it, but I still did it and the short stories were totally awesome.

Zombies Vs UnicornsFINSIHED Zombies vs. Unicorns

Ugh glad it’s over. Not a fan of short stories.  Learned that mostly from reading this book.

SpousonomicsDIDN’T FINISH Spousonomics by Paula Szuchman, Jenny Anderson

Still unread the last chapter. I might get around to finishing it this month :) We’ll see.

Ruin and RisingFINISHED Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo

Beautiful ending.

Year of Living BiblicallyCURRENTLY READING The Year of Living Biblically: One Man’s Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible by A.J. Jacobs

It’s interesting.  I’m learning a lot about the Jewish religion that I didn’t know before.

Scarlet by Marissa MeyerDIDN’T START Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

I loved Cinder and when the sequel, Scarlet, went on sale for the kindle I had to get it.  I’ve heard nothing but good things about this one!  I think this will be a fast and fun read to help me relax during the holidays.  I mean, normally the holidays don’t stress me out but I decided this year that my kids had too many toys and it would be a good idea to paint and decorate their rooms.  That might have been a little ambitious lol.

BONUS READS:

The Too clever Fox by Leigh BardugoThe Too-Clever Fox by Leigh Bardugo

The Witch of Duva by Leigh Bardugo

Little Knife by Leigh Bardugo

These all felt like familiar fairy tales with elements that I had heard before but the author did a wonderful job of twisting and changing them so they were new and different.  She also made sure that they fit inside the world she had created.  It’s not necessary to read this but I felt like they added to the richness and depth of the world.  They are very similar to the Tales of Beedle-the Bard by JK Rowling.  I highly recommend them.

I’m almost finished reading The Year of Living Biblically and I’m enjoying it so much because it’s not only entertaining, but educational. I like how you are reading with your kids and trying to find books that will interest them. I’m trying to do the same!

The Year of Living Biblically: One Man’s Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible looks really interesting and I think I might have to add it to my TBR list. I would be interested in it.

I have Cinder, Scarlet and Cress waiting to be read on my shelves. YAY for completing your Goodreads Goal, I managed to complete mine and read and extra few on top of it which I didn’t really think I would do. :)

Good luck for your reading queue this month
