edenbrooke-smallEdenbrooke

by Julianne Donaldson

Why You Should Read It

“If Jane Austen could write about scandalous things (in a proper manner of course) like highwaymen robbing you etc. then it would have come out like Edenbrooke. The author, Julianne Donaldson, did a good job of making a Regency romance a little more modern. The characters, settings, and manners were are all Regency but the plot had a more modern, quick pace which was really fun …. [Read More]” – from my review

Blackmoore_cover_final_6-25-13Blackmoore

by Julianne Donaldson

Why You Should Read It

“An absolutely stunning second novel by Julianne Donaldson. This book is a treasure that will remain forever on my shelves and be shared through generations. Julianne has taken Jane Austen’s style and period and crafted a novel that is poetic, deep, haunting and classically romantic. The Gothic tone and mysterious setting of the moors next to the sea make this a wonderful Fall or rainy day read … [Read More]” – Heather from Fire and Ice

Shades-of-Milk-and-Honey-by-Mary-Robinette-KowalShades of Milk and Honey

by Mary Robinette Kowal

This is book 1 in the 5-book Glamourist Histories Series

Why You Should Read It

“It is a truth universally acknowledged that attempting to emulate Jane Austen’s verve and wit is no easy task. In Mary Robinette Kowal’s debut novel, Shades of Milk and Honey, Austen’s England is blended with a dash of fantasy and glamour, making for a frothy read as enticing (and light on substance) as its title … [Read More]” – Thea from The Book Smugglers

longbourn-2Longbourn

by Jo Baker

Why You Should Read It

“It should be said at once that Jo Baker’s “Longbourn” is an exception. Neither a sequel nor a disappointment, it’s an affecting look at the world of “Pride and Prejudice,” but from another point of view — the servants’ hall, where other lives are simultaneously lived, with very different concerns and dramas … [Read More] ” – from The New York Times

the-grand-sophyThe Grand Sophy

by Georgette Heyer

Georgette Heyer was  a very prolific writer who pretty much invented Regency Romance.  The Grand Sophy is considered one of her best works, but she wrote over 50 novels. That should keep you busy for a while ;)

Why You Should Read It

“The Grand Sophy is one of Georgette Heyer’s “larger than life” books. Everything – from the characters to Sophy’s antics to the settings – is bigger and grander than in most of her other novels, and the side characters are unforgettable … [Read More]” – Jane Austen’s World

for-eliseFor Elise

by Sarah M. Eden

Why You Should Read It

“Regency Romance is one of my favorite genres, and Sarah M. Eden is a great go to Regency author. In her latest, For Elise, Miles Linwood, a marquess, is traveling the country when he happens upon his long lost childhood friend. Elise, now called Ella is a very young widow with small child, living a life of poverty. The two were the best of friends growing up until a murder tore their lives and inherited estates apart … [Read More]” – Heather from Fire and Ice

becoming-lady-lockwoodBecoming Lady Lockwood

by Jennifer Moore

Why You Should Read It

“Becoming Lady Lockwood had everything an historical romance should. It had a strong heroine, a dashing hero, a moving plot with some tension and a little danger, great chemistry between the two love interests, some humor, romance that extracted some sighs … [Read More]” – Tressa from Wishful Endings

a-heart-revealedA Heart Revealed

by Josi S. Kilpack

Why You Should Read It

“In spite of the heroine and the hero both being totally unlikable at the beginning of the book, the unusually well-crafted prose draws the reader along, and Amber’s personal evolution makes the book more literary than other romances. […] A very compelling read … [Read More]” – Kirkus Reviews

I love Regency Romance, although I don’t mind if they are “clean” or not. I love Edenbrooke. That is one of my my favorites. I still haven’t read Blackmore, but I do plan on it. And I also keep meaning to read Shades of Milk and Honey.

Great list! And it’s put me in the regency mood. I think it’s time to finally pick up Blackmoore.

I liked EDENBROOKE and loved A HEART REVEALED. I haven’t read the rest, although I’ve enjoyed Jennifer Moore’s other books.

    Thanks for the great list!

Yay! It’s about time someone collected all these titles and put them in one adorable list. I’m not a fan of the steamy romance that seems to penetrate so many romantic stories, and I always forget what good company a regency romance can be if I’m looking to avoid that. Thanks for the post!

Thanks for the tag on Twitter. :) I’ve read all but six of these. 11 of these books are physically on my shelves. Of the six I haven’t read, one I own on my shelves, one is an eARC I’ve been meaning to read, two are already on my tbr, leaving two that have now been added to my tbr. The Grand Sophy is I think my favorite from Heyer and is one book where I got so emotionally involved I literally wanted to reach into the book and strangle a character. I also laughed out loud on multiple occasions and loved the slowly developed romance. You’ve got several of my favorites on here besides The Grand Sophy. Great list!

I heard of Edenbrooke when watching the Jane Austen is My Homegirl rap awhile ago. I still haven’t read it, but I don’t think I’ll ever forget it, since I’ll forever remember the rap that is one of the funniest things I’ve seen.
