How I Did on my 2015 Resolutions

January 4, 2016 By Jessica Filed Under: My Reading Diary 2 Comments

As I was writing my New Year’s Resolutions for 2016, I wondered if resolutions actually work. I realized that I’ve never gone back at my last year’s resolutions to see how many I accomplished so I’m going to do it for the first time this year.  I’ll be honest – once I write these resolutions, I don’t really look at them again.  But writing them down helps me think about them and I’m surprised at how many I finish.

2015 Resolutions

Kids

  • Read books to them – We read Spirit Animals, Captain Nobody, and Harry Potter.
  • Create more traditions – even for the small holidays. I had a scavenger hunt for St Patricks’s Day and we ate green food, I got Valentine’s Day treats, Easter egg hunt, carved pumpkins, made pie together, and saw some Christmas lights.  It was a lot of fun.  I’m lazy and thought it would be work (and it was) but I mostly had fun.
  • Play more! I said yes more and played board games, video games, and listened to lots of stories when they came in the door from school.
  • Just say yes.
  • Do chores with them. I wasn’t consistent with it since I didn’t have a set time like I do this year, but I did do a lot of chores with them and taught them some new skills.
  • Reading Parties.  We didn’t have parties, but we did read most nights together so I’m okay with that.

Spiritual

  • Write in my journal.  I caught up at one point, but I’m behind again :)
  • Read my scriptures.
  • Catch up on recording family memories.  This is time consuming and it might not be something I have time for right now.

Physical

  • Reduce stress. I went to a therapist and she helped me figure our ways for me to reduce stress and it’s been working really well.
  • Do yoga with my son.
  • Get a new, comfy mattress and bed frame.  We are still paying for it but it was worth every penny.

Reading

  • Read a 1000+ page book.  I barely finished this goal, but I’m really proud that I did!
  • Read all my book club books.

Personal

  • Stay within my budget.  I overspent a lot. I could be better at this one, too.
  • Go clothes shopping every month. I bought clothes for our trip to Disney World, but I definitely didn’t go every month.

Blogging

  • Fix my search page.
  • Manage social media.
  • Maybe have a paper planner for my blog. And I love it! I’m going to have a post soon on how to make your own blog planner!
  • Make new, trendy social media buttons.
  • Find a new way to read and keep track of blogs.  I still read blogs with feedly or randomly when I see them on Facebook or something.  I’m not sure there is a better way to read blogs :(

You did good! And you made a lot of goals. I don’t hardly make goals. It’s probably a good thing. I don’t think I’d do as well as you.

Great job! I’m so impressed that you were able to keep track of all your goals and how many you achieved! Go you!
