Book Club Ideas for The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton

February 19, 2016 By Jessica Filed Under: Book Club 5 Comments

Last November, we read The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton for book club.  Our lovely host decided to do a tea party since this book was set in the WWII and proper society was important in the book. Plus, tea party! It was so fun!  Here are some pictures of what we ate and at the end of the post are some discussion questions for the book.  You can check out my review of The Secret Keeper to see if it’s a good fit for you book club (spoiler alert–it is:)

Our host bought a real tea set for the party!

Tea pots and tea

You haven’t lived until you’ve eaten clotted cream. Our host bought it online so it’s the real stuff!!!

English biscuits and scones. I ate two. Of each. Don’t judge.

We each got a table to share with lovely flowers.

I feel like I’m at Downton Abbey for high tea!

The spoon! I die of cuteness!

Discussion Questions

Here are the discussion questions that our host came up with.  You can find more discussion questions as well as an author interview, further reading, and more with the official reading guide.

  • Did you like how it jumped around?
  • Did you love Jimmy?
  • What did you think of Dorothy? (Just for FYI, we have a therapist in our group and she said she thought that Dorothy had Histrionic Personality Disorder if she was, you know, a real person. You can look that up and discuss whether you think it fits that character.)
  • Did all the characters get the fate they deserved?
  • How age is portrayed in the book? A lot of the characters tell stories of their youth but they also can’t imagine the older characters being young.

I hope you enjoyed this post! Be sure to pin it for later!

This is some wonderful dedication to a book club. I’ve never been part of a book club where anybody got NEARLY this excited about hosting, hahaha! Great job of bringing out the best of the book’s theme in your set up :)

Looks so fun! I love Kate Morton’s books — they’re so atmospheric. Your book club did a great job re-creating that.
