I’ve been reading Star Wars novels for decades now. At some point, I got overwhelmed by the sheer number of novels in the Star Wars universe and I simply gave up reading them and moved on to other things. Then Disney bought Star Wars and things changed. They scrapped all previously published novels (except the movie novelizations) and called them “Legends” so they could start over. Since they are monitoring the expanded universe of novels more closely, there are a lot less of them–and that’s a good thing. I feel like I can read them all and keep up this time. So this list/challenge was born. I am going to keep track of all the Star Wars novels I read and bonus–you get a handy list of all the new canon novels in the Star Wars universe!
A couple of rules:
- Novels only. No graphic novels, picture books, or visual dictionaries because there are a lot of those. If that’s the kind of list you’re looking for, then this comprehensive list of all the Star Wars books is for you.
- Includes middle grade and young adult novels. I like reading those genres and some of my favorite stories and fun easter eggs have come from these MG and YA books.
- New canon only. Just to be clear, these are only the new Disney authorized novels :)
- Includes short story collections. There are some stand alone novellas but unless they have been complied into a collection, they aren’t included here. For a list of stand-alone novellas, you can refer to this Goodreads list. Be aware that some of these novellas are in the short story collections listed here and some aren’t.
Pin this reading list for later!
List is in chronological order according to the story timeline (not publication date).

Sounds fun. I still like the legends, though, so I have a hard time with the new canonverse.

I have read eleven of these already! Yay! I decided I’m not going to read the movie novelizations. I can just go watch the movie. My favorite so far is Dark Disciple, but make sure you’ve seen The Clone Wars first.

Wow 11! good job! I’ve read more than one book so far but I haven’t written reviews for them yet. I was wondering that about the clone wars novels. I haven’t watched any of the TV shows so I think I’ll skip those. My favorite was Bloodline.
