Armchair BEA: Introductions First!

June 4, 2012 By Jessica Filed Under: Events 21 Comments

Hi everyone! It’s day one of Armchair BEA and I’m really excited about it.  I’ve never done this event before, and if I’m being honest I only have a vague idea of what BEA even is…but I’m prepared to have fun and meet new bloggers!

Today’s topic is Introductions.  So here’s a little info about me :)

Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?

I’m a stay-at-home mom of two living in Utah.  I majored in music, realized I didn’t have the drive to make it into a career and got my Bachelor’s degree in Finance instead.  Now I wish I would have majored in English.  Oh well.  I’m here blogging now :)

My sister is a fitness and personal blogger and she kept trying to convince me to blog because she loves it. I kept telling her that I don’t like fitness or writing about my personal life every day, the only thing I like is books.  Oh.  I could write a blog about books.  So I did.  I’ve been blogging for a year now.  It went by fast.

What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2012?

My favorite book so far this year has to be Everneath by Brodi Ashton.  Not only is she a local Utah author, but her story was so creative and gripping and tragic and moving…. I could go on. It was an amazing debut novel and I can’t wait for the next one.

Tell us one non-book-related thing that everyone reading your blog may not know about you.

Well besides the pupils of my eyes being slightly different sizes because of a well thrown taffy, I’d have to say something that most people don’t know about me is my hatred of ice cream.  Like, I passionately hate ice cream.  I can’t even watch people eat it.  The melting is like nails on a chalkboard for me.  I think I might be in the minority about this…

What is your favorite feature on your blog (i.e. author interviews, memes, something specific to your blog)?

My favorite posts to write are my Google Diary posts.  I love to ask questions while I’m reading a book and before I started my blog, I would Google a ton of stuff and then just continue reading.  It seemed like a waste to look up all that stuff and not keep track of it so I decided to keep track of my Google searches on Tumblr.  When I saw how often those posts got reblogged, I decided to share them on my blog as well.  I’ve written a Google Diary for Hold Me Closer, Necromancer, The Dark Divine Trilogy and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

What literary location would you most like to visit? Why?

I’ve always wanted to go to Italy, but after reading Eat, Pray, Love I’ve been DYING to go there.  Whenever I travel, I pay more attention to the locations and just eat the cheapest stuff I can find.  That book inspired me to travel somewhere just to EAT.  I had never thought of doing that before.

I’d like to travel to Tuscany, Italy. What is growing on those trees?? I WANT TO EAT IT.

Thanks for stopping by! It was great to meet you.  Feel free to leave links to your introduction post and I’ll come visit!

Hi Jessica!  It’s great to ‘meet’ you!  I think it’s  fantastic you have a degree in music.  I have an English degree and I admit I loved taking classes in which I just had to read books – maybe when your children are older/grown you can take english/book classes at a local college – the advantage is no tests or grades just enjoyment!

I love the photo of Italy you posted. I’ve never been but want to go particularly because of the art & music culture that came out of Italy.  I have yet to read Eat Pray Love.

I am looking forward to reading your Google Diary posts. They sound cool!

BEA is short for Book Expo America, a huge gathering or conference  of publishers, readers, authors, editors etc. in NYC..here’s a link to the website  BEA NYC 2012

    Have a great week!

That is so funny that you hate ice cream. Have you always hated it? Or, did something happen to you to make you hate it?

I think it evolved from my dislike of milk.  I’ve always hated milk and it’s now migrated to other milk-like things.  The only dairy I can stand to eat is cheese.

OK, your answer about hating ice cream is hands down the funniest thing I’ve read in today’s Armchair BEA posts.

    Have fun with Armchair BEA!

Wait… you HATE ice cream?!  o.O  You are definitely in the minority there, my friend :-) I’ll confess, though, I like cookies much better than ice cream!

Hooray for Google Diaries! You inspired me to do my own, and I love it, so thank you very much :-)

I loved getting to know a bit more about you… I want to hear this “taffy story” now, though! Ouch!

Definitely in the minority on the ice cream thing I think!

The movie that made me long to go to Italy was Under the Tuscan Sun. Longed for it for months until I moved back onto somewhere else.

    Enjoy your Armchair BEA.

Wow, so I guess I need to read Everneath then? I remember wanting to read it when it came first came out, but at some point it got placed on the backburner, so it was good to have this reminder!

Ooo, let’s go to Italy together! We’ll visit all the spots that have ever been in books :) And I promise not to eat any gelato in front of you, hee hee!
Everneath! I really did enjoy that book too! It was truly unique and different – can’t wait for book two!
Love learning more about you, Jessica :) Enjoy the rest of your week!

I don’t hate ice cream but I do loathe the melting! It’s one reason I can’t have anything  with my ice cream – because it’s too hard to separate them when it starts going runny.

    So, you’re not alone! :D

I too wish to go to Italy! It is just so picturesque. I could spend a few years of my life there :).

You hate ice cream? :o That’s kind of sad! Although I do admit I’m not very into it lately… interesting! And I’m glad you enjoyed Everneath! I loved it as well and thought it was fantastic. :D

Thanks for stopping by! It’s very nice to meet you.

The ice-cream comment is crazy talk! I wish I would have heard about abea earlier so I could participate. I’m at my parents’ house for the week, and their computer broke recently. I guess I could write an entire posts with my 2 thumbs. Lol!

    Hi
I started blogging in September 2009 and then started reviewing shortly thereafter. I originally started The Blog O’The Irish but when I started reviewing I had to create a strictly review and giveaway blog, therefore Celticlady’s Reviews was created. I got into blogging because I can no longer work due to a disability so I love to read and be on one of my three computers, ipad and Kindle Fire so I figured I best do something with that passion. It is hard to say what my favorite book is this year, as I have read so many great books and from authors that I had never heard of…. I am rambling here but I am excited to be able to participate in Armchair BEA..thank you for the post.

You pupils are different sizes too? I thought I was the only one! Mine is due to a car accident, but my right eye is major dilated all the time while the left is normal. It’s totally weird and throws people off when the look at my face while talking to me.  I wrote a post about it on my personal journal many years ago.

    Nice to meet you!

I’ve still yet to read Everneath :/ I really want to and now that I know how fantastic it is, I’ll definitely bump it up on my list! And Italy is BEAUTIFUL! I’ve been to Sanremo and Venice. I don’t remember Sanremo much but Venice is so beautiful and just gorgeous! Definitely a place to travel! My friend went to Rome and absolutely loved it so I think that’d definitely be worth it XD Great post!

    All the best ♥Mackenzie
