Armchair BEA: Networking…In Real Life?!

June 6, 2012 By Jessica Filed Under: Events 4 Comments

It’s day three of Armchair BEA and I’ve been having a blast!

Today’s suggested writing topic…we’d love for you to share a positive “real life” experience with books! Either by way of your own partnerships in your community, a book signing you went to or possibly even a get together with fellow book bloggers.

It’s amazing how many people in real life I’ve met through blogging.  I always thought that blogging was a very isolated thing – like playing the piano where you sit in a room by yourself all day long.  That hasn’t been true at all!  Even as shy as I am, I’ve been able to meet people.

The first book signing where I met people that I knew from online was the Cinder book signing in January.  I met Carrie there who I knew from Twitter and I even said hi to Brodi Ashton before her book was published.

Then I went to the Writing for Charity conference in March in Provo and got to have my short story kindly critiqued by Brodi Ashton (I swear I don’t stalk her guys) and meet some more bloggers who I knew from online like Enna Isilee and Diana.

The Hunger Games party! Jessica (me) and my friend Miriam.

Then Penelope arranged for a bunch of Utah book bloggers to go see the midnight showing of Hunger Games on March 23rd and it was a blast! I hadn’t done anything at midnight for years.

Blogging has definitely gotten me out of my shy comfort zone to put myself out there and meet people!  Talking to bloggers and authors through Twitter, blog comments and events has helped me be a little less shy in all aspects of my social life.

Tell me about how you’ve networked through your blog in real life!

I love being in Utah with all these awesome opportunities that we have. Now, you and I just need to officially meet rather than just in passing, lol.

It’s surprised me how many bloggers are calling themselves shy! We all seem so outgoing online.

I would have loved to share The Hunger Games with other bloggers – instead, I went with my fiancé and ended up explaining half the movie to him! lol

    Thanks for stopping by today!
