See Some Author’s Acting Skills + Giveaway

August 30, 2012 By Jessica Filed Under: Book Signing 5 Comments

Book Cover for The Infinity Ring: Mutiny in Time by James Dashner This is my recap of the Infinity Ring: A Mutiny in Time Book Signing with the author James Dashner sponsored by the King’s English last night (I’m trying to come up with catchy headlines.  Did it work? I have a video of the author’s acting in the post and it’s FUNNY). The authors Matthew J. Kirby and Jennifer A. Nielsen were also there because they will be writing books 5 and 6 respectively.  The Infinity Ring will be a 7 book series with 6 different authors.

I wasn’t planning on buying the Infinity Ring but when I saw how pretty and shiny it was with a secret map at the beginning that you can only open when you’ve finished the book….gah I had to buy it!  Plus I got a sticker :) That is so going in my reading notebook.

So…it looks my my stupid ipod didn’t record any of the presentation (or maybe it was the fault of the stupid ipod operator which was me.) All I got was the Q&A session.  But here’s the trailer for Infinity Ring that they showed.  The books are about history and time travel.  They have a really fun online game component and an interactive map to help you on your mission in the game.  It looks very fun and the 11 year old in me is so jazzed.  (*waves* Hello care free, young self I haven’t seen you in a while! Glad to have you back).

If you can’t see the video below, you can click here to view it.

Here are a few of my favorite Q&A’s.

My aunt asked the best question of the night: I have to know what SQ stands for.

James Dashner: I cannot tell you that.

My aunt is disappointed and says “Gahhhh.”

James Dashner tells her that she’s brilliant for already asking that question.

She still wants to know what the heck SQ stands for.

Boy on front row: I couldn’t help but notice the similarities between 13th Reality and the Infinity Ring.

James Dashner: A 13th Reality Fan!

Jennifer A. Nielsen: He didn’t say he was a fan.

James Dashner: Thank you for clarifying. I despised 13th Reality and the fact that these books are similar makes me sick.

*I laugh my butt off along with everyone else*

James Dashner: So….what was the question? Oh yeah. Well, have you read book 4 yet?

Boy on front row: It hasn’t come out yet.

James Dashner:

James Dashner: Good point. I like this guy.  What’s your name?

Boy on front row: Paul.

James Dashner: Can you ask an easier question next time, Paul?

Then James talked about his love of history and science that he got from his dad.  13th Reality has alternate realities, and Infinity Ring is another aspect of quantum physics which is time travel.

Since there were three authors there, they did a little dramatized reading of the book.  It was very funny.  Brodi Ashton was the narrator and Matthew, James and Jennifer were the characters.  My camera work is just as good as any of the Bourne movies. Click here if you can’t see the movie below.

About James Dashner

James was born and raised in Georgia but now lives in the Rocky Mountains with his family. He has four kids, which some might think is too many but he thinks is just right. Once upon a time, James studied accounting and worked in the field of finance, but has been writing full time for several years. (He doesn’t miss numbers. At all.)

K, I’m laugh my head off! First over the conversation between James and Paul. James is sooo funny! I’m also dying at your Bourne movie reference. I have a brother in law who hates the movies because of the camera work. I never noticed till he pointed it out but it is rather annoying.

James makes me laugh at every signing. The Bourne movies – LOL it’s one of those things that you don’t notice until some points it out…and then it bugs you….:)
