New Years Resolutions and A Year of Reading 2012

January 1, 2013 By Jessica Filed Under: My Reading Diary 4 Comments

Format: select

~New Years Resoultions~

Personal

  • Have balance in my life.  I want to do some cleaning (which I loathe), do something fun with my kids, some reading and some blogging everyday.  I want to do a little of each every day even if my house is cleaner but not all the way clean and I only read a few pages.  But most of all I want to make sure I make memories with my kids.  They are getting big so fast!

Reading

  • Read 50 books. I will increase this number when all of my kids are in school.  But for now, the one book a week pace is the most I can handle!
  • Read a 1000+ page book.  I read War and Peace in 2011 which was 1273 pages.  The longest book I read this year was Grave Mercy at only 549 pages. Waaahh.  I love long books!
  • Read 1 library book per month.  I want to reduce my book buying and my ARC requesting so I want to read a lot of books I own and more books from my library.  Having the deadline always helps me get to it and get it done!

Physical

  • Work out twice a week.  It can be walking on the treadmill or investing in some work out videos.
  • Have some sort of chart or app that helps me keep track easily of when I worked out and how much.

Spiritual

  • Finish reading the Doctrine and Covenants by March.
  • Start reading the Old Testament and read it cover to cover even if it takes me 3 years (which honestly, it might).

Blogging

  • Get a genesis blog design.  I want to update my blog header and navigation.   I want to make it easier to browse by genre, star rating, author, book title etc. and have more pages with drop down menus.  I can’t do any of that cool stuff on my current blog!
  • Install auto updating social media and archives.  Ashley at the Book Nook has some really cool PERL scripts to do this and when I get my new design, I want to try it out!
  • Add content rating and genre tags to my book reviews.

You had a great reading year in 2012! And your resolutions for this year have inspired me, as I’m still mulling over my bookish ones. I have a very similar goal about the library. I need to buy less, read more of the books I have, and borrow borrow borrow!

I also love your thoughts on doing a little each day. I loathe cleaning too, and I need to get over that at least a little bit this year. :)

Thanks Jessica! How people read over 100 books I don’t know but I was very happy with my 50 :). I downloaded this checklist from Pinterest that has small chores to do everyday. It makes me feel like I’m actually done cleaning! Can’t wait to see your resolutions. :) happy new year!

These all sound like great goals. I hope you can keep them and find that balance. I need that too.

My name is Jessica. I love to read Young Adult and classic literature. I’ve been a book blogger for six years and I haven’t gotten tired of it yet. I’m a very curious reader. Writing about all the questions and thoughts I had while reading a book is the best hobby ever.  Read more….
