My Pottermore Adventure

August 2, 2011 By Jessica Filed Under: My Reading Diary 3 Comments

Format: select

How I got onto Pottermore early.

Step 1: Follow @Hypable on twitter.

Step 2: Set up text message alerts on twitter so when Hypable announces that Pottermore has put up another clue it will hopefully wake me up.

Step 3: Set up my laptop right next to my bed with the screen turned off so I can get online immediately.

So, at about 3 am last night, my phone says I got a text saying the next Pottermore clue was up. Apparently, I slept through that one. I sleep like a rock, so that’s not surprising. I got another text at 4 am that woke me up saying “Have you figured out the second Pottermore clue yet?” Half asleep, I try to wake up my computer and then I remember I turned the screen off. After my screen is working, I go to Pottermore and it gives me this lovely screen.

Dang. I missed it. So I check out some blogs to see what’s going on. Hypable says that the clue is still up and this is what it is:

What is the number of the chapter in which Professor McGonagall cancels the Quidditch match between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff? Multiply this number by 42.

I click on Pottermore again and it’s working now! Here’s the screenshot:

Pottermore Day 2 Clue

That means there are still spots left! I’m cutting it close because Clue 1 was only up for an hour before all the spots were filled and it’s been an hour already. I don’t know the answer, so I Google it (How do you spell McGonagall???!) and what do you know someone posted the answer and said they “just knew.” Huh. It’s chapter 14 which means the answer is 588. I put it into the URL like the instructions say to. It looks like this: “http://quill.pottermore.com/588.” And it takes me to this screen:

Do you see the Magical Quill?

At first, I thought that it was a gotcha screen that meant I was too late. But I scrolled down the photos and there is the Magical Quill. I found it!

The screen after the Ron movie page where the quill was hidden. Do you notice that the book in the background is open now and the Magical Quill is writing in it?

Gosh it’s dark in here, I think as I’m registering and trying not to make a typo, so I turn on the light and my sweet husband doesn’t complain. I’m all registered by 4:08 and my husband thought it was so cool that he wanted an account, too. He’s a budding Harry Potter fan after the awesomeness of Harry Potter 7.2. I seriously doubted that it would let me do it twice from the same computer, but it did! I got most of my screenshots the second time around because I wasn’t in such a frenzy. My husband is SpellAuror but he wanted to be SnitchWatcher. I told him SpellAuror was cooler, but I should have let him. I feel bad about it. The site closed officially at 4:20 MST so I barely made it. I’m SeerCentaur.  I’m kind of sad that I didn’t get to pick my screen name.  It would have been “MissParryOtter.”  I know.  Awesome, right?

Now that I’m all registered, I just have to wait for the contest to be over and they will start sending Welcome emails for when you can enter. It could be anytime between August 6 and September 30. Gosh, I hope I’m not the end of September. Wouldn’t that suck only getting in a day early?

There’s a little witch on Privet Drive! How fun! Is it McGonagall?? :)

I’ll let you know as soon as I get my Welcome email and have full access to the site! So check back soon!

I did everything that you did with the twitter and the text notifications so that I can get in on Pottermore! I hope I’ll be able to!
